Introducing SuperWellness associate Ceri James where she talks about her love for 80’s films, warm beaches and all things nutrition.

Could you tell us a little bit about your background before becoming a nutrition professional?

Having graduated with a Fine Art degree I was lucky to find myself working in the media as a Picture Editor and Shoot Producer. I organised photoshoots around the world for books, magazines, newspapers and online and was lucky enough to work in both Dubai and Sydney for global titles.

How did you come to be interested in nutrition and go on to study for your qualification?

As a teenager I had a volatile relationship with food, but I also worked as a commis chef, which sparked my love for cooking. In my twenties, I found a passion for exercise and decided to run the London Marathon. Having read all about running and what I should eat to fuel the extreme exercise, I decided to train as a personal trainer. This inspired me to look more closely at food and how it can affect your body and wellbeing. My love for nutrition grew and I decided to go for my qualification. I love passing on my knowledge and enthusiasm to others to assist them on their journeys to a healthier, happier life.

What do you love most about your job now?

I love seeing how small changes can impact and improve a person’s life. Seeing the results; clients being less stressed, having more energy and vitality to concentrate on the things that they love and that makes them happy.

What is your favourite film (or films)?

My guilty pleasure has got to be Dirty Dancing. And I also love The Goonies, even after being called ‘Chunk’ at school and being made to do the ‘truffle shuffle’ (which I never could do). It was just the curly hair, I hope!

What dish would you serve at a dinner party?

I love hosting dinner parties and they are always themed, and most would contain an element of chilli.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?

Having lived in Dubai and Sydney, I would have to say anywhere by the sea, and being able to see mother nature at her best. Vancouver is currently high on the list but anywhere warm, near water and with great food will make me happy!

What’s your most frequently used phrase or expression?

‘Brilliant’ or perhaps ‘whoop!!’ Although my friend said: ‘Whatever you say/shriek when you do your little happy clappy hands “YAY” jump-for-joy-and-full-of-energy-and-enthusiasm dance thing you do!!’

How would your loved ones and friends sum you up in 3 words?

Kind, caring and enthusiastic.

Are you reading a book at the moment? If so which?

I’m not very good at reading, I tend to dip in and out of books but I do love looking through cookery books for inspiration and to admire the beautiful photography.

What’s your favourite smell?

You can’t beat the smell of freshly ground coffee. Love, love, love!

What’s your favourite animal?

I’m not a huge animal lover but I do like dogs and talking to odd-looking fish. Giraffes are stunning creatures to watch, so awkward.

What is most important to you in life

My friends and family.

Wine or beer (or vodka?)?

Can’t beat a lovely glass of organic red wine.

Gym or outdoors? Outdoors without a doubt – fresh air beats sweaty gyms any day.
